At covertcabin we use a combination of methods for heating the cabins & producing hot water.
Hot water
Both of our cabins use the same method for heating shower water. The water is first heated by the solar collector-plate outside the cabin. The water is circulated by a tiny solar powered pump and the hot water stored in a cylinder inside the cabin. When the weather is hot this is usually sufficient on its own, if not, the woodstove does the rest.
The woodstove flue-pipe houses an insulated "heating jacket" that is simply  closed to turn the system "on", or opened to turn it "off".  There are no valves nor special knowledge required, its as simple as it gets! The water temperature is displayed constantly on a digital thermometer on the wall, so you know exactly when your shower is ready!
Lighting
At Woodsman's cabin we rely mostly on oil-lamps & candles with a little help from the sun to supply some basic solar-lighting, (if you need to get up in the night!)  You'll love the atmosphere this age-old form of lighting produces.

Fisherman's cabin still uses candles & oil-lamps, but having a small water turbine spinning 24/7 gives it the  luxury of having electric lights!  We use a 12 volt system similar to that you may find in a mobile-home.
The energy we produce (around 5amps) is 100% green as it is produced from the outflow of water from the lake.
What we've got....
We aim to provide as much as possible so that you can travel light; Bed linen & towels are provided as well as a few basic toiletries and all your firewood, candles & oil.
We even throw in some complimentary beer & wine so you can start relaxing the moment you arrive!
There's a small supply of tea, coffee, sugar and basic culinary items, as well as our highly acclaimed "shop-in-a-box" where you can purchase the essentials to make a tasty meal if you arrive after the shops have closed.
