You approach the cabin down an off-road track, surrounded by forest and lakes on either side, past an ancient chateau that dates from the ninth century and the scene of many medieval battles between the French & English.  As you rise over the hill, the cabin and beautiful lake of about 1 hectare are layed out before you.  The setting is stunning.  The cabin faces due south, perched on a protrusion of granite  with  views across the lake and into the beech & oak woodland on the far bank.  The cabin was built entirely using timber from our own woodland.    Inside, there's a comfy living area with woodburning stove, it's furnished with a mixture of junk-shop gems and recycled bits & bobs. The well- equipped galley kitchen with gas fridge & cooker has everything you need to prepare & cook meals.  There's also a cosy bedroom with a double bed and the spacious showeroom with fluffly organic cotton towels &  modern composting loo (see tech 'n' spec for more info).  Up the winding staircase is a mezzanine style bedroom with 2 single beds with views over the lake.  The style is very rustic-romantic and you'll find that even if it rains, being inside is a pleasure!
A wind-up radio provides your contact with the outside world, nature will provide all other entertainment free of charge!
The variety of flora & fauna around the cabin is astonishing.  Sit quietly and you'll see, amongst others,  deer, pine martens, stoats and possibly even wild boar!  The lake is home to our own coypu (like a beaver), kingfisher, buzzards, herons, owls and numerous varieties of dragonflies & butterflies. There are beautiful walks through the forest that will take you to quiet, sleepy hamlets and you're still within easy cycling distance of local restaurants, bars & shops.
Alternatively, you could spend a few hours drifting around the lake on the raft, paddle up to the waterfall or maybe even enjoy some "wild swimming"!  The cabin is really well equipped for making the most of your stay. For more details about what's provided for you in the cabin see tech 'n' spec page.

People loved Woodsman's cabin so much, we decided to build another one!  It took time to find the perfect location tucked away in protected forest. In terms of off-grid living, this is as good as it gets!  Starting from scratch gave us the opportunity to build the ultimate eco-friendly hideaway, incorporating all we've learned along the way to make a totally autonomous home from home.  Here, we are blessed with a running water supply from the lake which enables us to provide green energy for the cabin via our little water turbine. One of our aims is to showcase renewable energy in action - a combination of solar, water power and wood provide all your mod-cons.  Of course we still love the candlelit evenings but it's great to have the option of electric light at the flick of a switch!  We've designed the cabin to run itself with minimum intervention, you'll be surprised how comfortable life can be at Fisherman's cabin!
Fisherman's cabin sleeps 2/4 and is situated near to the village of Augignac and the town of Piegut-Pluviers.
